In the huge system of modern industrial manufacturing, Die-casting mold parts are like key roles hidden behind the scenes. Although they do not directly face the end consumers, they play a decisive role in the quality, performance and production efficiency of the products. From the engine block of a car to the precision shell of a smartphone, die-casting mold parts are everywhere. They are the key link to realize the transformation of metal materials from their original form to precision parts. A deep understanding of die-casting mold parts can not only allow us to gain insight into the mysteries of industrial manufacturing, but also appreciate the perfect integration of human wisdom and technology in the pursuit of excellent production.
Key components of Die-casting mold parts
There are many types of die-casting mold parts, each with a unique mission. The precision and surface quality of the molded parts, as the core that gives the die-casting its final shape and size, directly determine the quality of the die-casting. The integral molded parts have high strength and good rigidity, which can ensure the smooth surface of the casting; while the inlaid type has more advantages in processing technology, which is convenient for the replacement of vulnerable parts and meets the production needs of parts with complex shapes.
The core pulling mechanism is indispensable in the die-casting process, and is mainly used to solve the molding part that hinders the die-casting from being ejected from the mold opening direction. Common forms such as the inclined pin core pulling mechanism, the inclined slider core pulling mechanism, and the hydraulic core pulling mechanism, through clever mechanical design, accurately pull out or insert the active core during the mold opening and closing process, so as to realize the molding of the complex inner cavity and structure of the product.
The ejection mechanism is responsible for smoothly ejecting the molded products from the mold, and is generally composed of ejection elements, reset elements, travel switch position elements, guide elements, and structural elements. These elements work together to ensure smooth and accurate ejection and avoid damage to the die-casting.
The mold frame is the basic framework of the die-casting mold. Like the cornerstone of a building, it plays a key role in fixing and assembling the molding inserts, cores, gate sleeves, core pulling mechanisms, ejection mechanisms, guide parts, etc. Its main components include movable and fixed mold base plates, movable and fixed mold sleeves, support plates, push plates, positioning pins and fastening screws, etc. The basic forms include through-hole mold frames, etc. Different mold frame structures are selected according to the specific needs and application scenarios of the mold.
The pouring system is the channel for the molten metal to enter the cavity, including the inner gate, cross runner and straight runner. A reasonably designed pouring system can guide the molten metal to fill the cavity evenly and quickly, reduce the resistance and pressure loss of the molten metal flow, and ensure the consistency of the casting quality.
Precision manufacturing process Die-casting mold parts
The manufacturing of die-casting mold parts can be called a feast of precision technology, which requires the coordination of multiple strict processes and advanced technologies. The drawing review process is like the blueprint planning of the project. The technicians carefully study the mold design drawings to ensure that the design meets the production requirements and quality standards.
In the material preparation stage, according to the performance requirements of the mold, select suitable materials, such as steel with good forgeability, cutting performance, high temperature strength and thermal fatigue resistance. The quality of these materials directly affects the service life of the mold and the quality of the die casting.
The processing process is the core link of manufacturing, involving a variety of processes and equipment. When processing the mold frame, the traceability and assembly accuracy of the parts are ensured by numbering; the A/B plate processing must ensure that the parallelism and verticality of the mold frame meet the high-precision requirements, and the screw holes and water holes are processed by the milling machine, and then the fitter performs fine operations such as tapping and trimming. The core processing is more complicated, from flash, rough grinding to milling machine processing, bench processing, and then CNC rough processing and precision processing, as well as heat treatment to improve hardness, EDM to achieve fine molding and save mold to ensure smoothness and other processes. Each step requires strict control of processing parameters and quality.
Mold parts processing also includes slider processing, clamping block processing, diverter cone gate sleeve processing and insert processing. For example, slider processing requires milling machine rough processing of six sides, then fine grinding of six sides to size requirements, and then milling machine rough processing and fine grinding of hanging table to make it slide with the mold frame slide, then processing the inclined surface and leaving margin for flying mold, and finally drilling water holes, etc. Each step is closely linked, and any deviation in any link may affect the overall performance of the mold.

Heat treatment process
The heat treatment process has a decisive influence on the performance of mold parts. Commonly used heat treatment processes include quenching, tempering, nitriding, etc. Appropriate heat treatment can improve the hardness, toughness and heat resistance of the material and extend the service life of the mold.
Research shows that the use of graded quenching process can reduce mold deformation, while deep cryogenic treatment can significantly improve the wear resistance of the mold. The application of vacuum heat treatment technology has significantly improved the surface quality of the mold. Optimizing heat treatment process parameters, such as temperature control and time setting, is crucial to obtaining ideal mold performance.
Surface treatment technology
Surface treatment technology is an effective means to improve mold performance. Common surface treatment methods include PVD coating, CVD coating, electroplating, etc. These technologies can form a protective layer with high hardness and low friction coefficient on the mold surface, significantly improving the wear resistance and anti-adhesion of the mold.
Experimental data show that the mold life with TiAlN coating can be increased by 3-5 times. The application of new technologies such as laser surface strengthening and plasma nitriding provides more options for mold surface treatment. Through the reasonable selection of surface treatment process, common mold wear, corrosion and other problems can be effectively solved.
Daily maintenance points
Daily maintenance of die-casting mold parts is the key to ensure their long-term stable operation and extend their service life. In terms of storage and packaging, die-casting mold parts should be stored in a dry, ventilated, non-corrosive gas environment, with the temperature controlled between 5℃ – 35℃ and the humidity maintained between 50% – 70%, avoiding moisture, heat and direct sunlight. Choose moisture-proof, dust-proof and shock-proof packaging materials to prevent chemical reactions between packaging materials and the surface of die-casting parts, resulting in corrosion and oxidation.
Cleaning and inspection work should not be ignored. Regularly clean the oil, dust and other dirt on the surface of die-casting parts to maintain the surface finish. At the same time, carefully check whether the surface is damaged, oxidized, corroded, etc., and repair and maintain it in time if any problems are found.
Maintenance of the lubrication and cooling system is essential. Regularly replace hydraulic and gear oils to ensure oil cleanliness; regularly clean the lubrication system to avoid grease contamination caused by excessive lubrication; regularly clean and apply sliding surfaces and guide rails to reduce friction and wear. In terms of cooling system, clean the water cooling system, keep the water channel unobstructed, check the fan regularly and clean up dust and debris to ensure stable cooling effect.
Mold maintenance is also a key point. When the die-casting mold is out of use, remove the dirt of the die-casting mold’s guide slider, die, core, exhaust system and other components on time to ensure the mold is clean, and ensure that the exhaust pipe is unobstructed to prevent carbon deposition and blockage. For Die-casting mold parts such as cores, small chains, etc. that are bent, cracked and broken, repair or replace them in time to ensure the normal operation of the mold and the quality of the die-casting. Die-casting mold equipment maintenance workers should inspect the die-casting mold on time and keep corresponding records. When performing routine repairs or replacing cores, they should also keep records for tracking and analysis.
Electrical system maintenance is also indispensable to ensure the normal operation of electrical equipment, clean the control cabinet, and avoid moisture and corrosion of circuit boards. Regularly check and replace thermal relays and fuses of electrical equipment to prevent electrical failures from affecting production.
